The following was posted to the Nightdive Studios Bluesky Social account:

Due to unforeseen problems, the planned console release of System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster on platforms like Xbox, Switch, and PlayStation for June 26 has been delayed.

We’re currently working to address these issues as quickly as possible.

Due to certain circumstances, we’ve chosen to take a significant step and launch our game on PC platforms (Steam, GOG, Epic, Humble) on the 26th of June. We are now aiming for a console release within the first fortnight of July.

We’ll update everyone as soon as we have a set launch date for consoles.

A subsequent message from Nightdive’s account provided more details about the console version concerns, as per their response to another Bluesky user.

According to Nightdive Bluesky’s post, the main problem stems from hold-ups in the approval process for certification (CERT), which is necessary before publishing on specific console platforms. Additionally, they are diligently addressing several technical difficulties that are particular to the multiplayer aspect of their project.

The remastered version of System Shock 2, celebrating its 25th anniversary, has been under development for quite some time. Originally known as System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition, it was later rebranded to include the anniversary in its title. Although the release date for the console edition is yet unclear, the PC version is set to launch on June 26 this Thursday.
