As a passionate admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Sydney Sweeney‘s upcoming biographical drama about the life of boxing legend Christy Martin has unveiled its first official photograph! This intriguing sneak peek is in anticipation of the movie’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2025, which is set to take place this coming September.
The film “Christy” is helmed by director David Michôd and co-writer Mirrah Foulkes. The narrative unfolds the journey of Martin’s rise in the boxing realm, intertwined with her attempted murder by her spouse in 2010. In addition to Sweeney, the cast comprises Ben Foster, Merritt Weaver, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Katy O’Brian, Chad L. Colman, and Tony Cavlero.

The picture offers viewers an initial peek into Sweeney’s astonishing metamorphosis, achieved through rigorous physical preparation to portray the film’s central athlete’s build. It showcases Sweeney within a boxing arena, offering us a sneak peek of one of the movie’s fights.
Back in an earlier chat, I shared that my physical transformation was quite dramatic due to the intense workout routine I had to follow. This included pumping iron and learning some serious kicks in boxing.
Sweeney remarked, “My body had undergone a significant transformation. None of my old clothes fit me anymore. I found myself in size 27 jeans, where I typically wear a 23. My bust grew larger, and my posterior expanded considerably. It was astonishing! I was taken aback, saying to myself, ‘Oh my goodness!’ But it was incredible: I felt incredibly strong, almost superhumanly so.
Apart from Christy, Sweeney will appear next in two upcoming projects: Lionsgate’s film version of The Housemaid with Academy Award nominee Amanda Seyfried and It Ends With Us star Brandon Sklenar, as well as Ron Howard’s survival thriller Eden featuring Ana de Armas. Moreover, she is expected to return as Cassie in the eagerly awaited third season of Euphoria.
