What is The Housemaid about?

I’ve been utterly captivated by “The Housemaid” by McFadden, a game-changing novel that’s been reigning supreme on The New York Times Bestseller List for more than a year now! Not only have I found myself engrossed in its pages, but it’s also sold an astonishing 3.6 million copies! That’s some impressive reading material, if you ask me!

According to the movie’s description, the character named Sweeney takes on the role of Millie, a hard-up woman who is grateful for the opportunity to work as a maid for Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew, a prosperous, affluent couple. Yet, she will eventually discover that the family’s hidden truths pose a greater threat than her own secrets.

Erin Westerman, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s co-president, stated that “The Housemaid” is an extraordinary sensation, having remained on the New York Times Bestsellers list for over a year, selling millions of copies, and being included in multiple critics’ preferred lists.

Westerman noted, “A delightful aspect of the book was envisioning the characters as we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried seem ideal for Millie and Nina. They both possess an enigmatic charm, layered complexity, and exceptional talent for portraying characters who don’t fully disclose themselves immediately. We are excited to partner them with Paul Feig, whom we collaborated with on A Simple Favor and its upcoming sequel, as he has a strong history of creating narratives centered around compelling female protagonists.

Known primarily for her role as Cassie Howard in Euphoria, Sweeney has also appeared in various films and series such as Nocturne, Downfalls High, The Voyeurs, Night Teeth, The White Lotus, Anyone But You, Reality, among others.

Friend, a renowned actress who has won accolades for her work, first caught widespread recognition when she portrayed Karen Smith in the 2004 teen comedy Mean Girls. Since then, she has appeared in numerous critically acclaimed productions across various platforms, such as Big Love, Mamma Mia!, Mank, Les Misérables, While We’re Young, First Reformed, The Dropout, and more.

Simultaneously, Feig is the director known for movies like Bridesmaids, The Heat, Spy, Ghostbusters, A Simple Favor, Last Christmas, and Jackpot!.
