As a die-hard fan of the Sweet Home series, I have been eagerly waiting for the release of its final season. Having read the original webtoon by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-Chan, I was intrigued to see how the Netflix adaptation would conclude this thrilling apocalyptic saga.
As a dedicated gamer and fan of K-dramas, I’ve been eagerly waiting for the final season of “Sweet Home” to drop on Netflix. The apocalyptic series, based on the popular webtoon by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-Chan, finally premiered on July 19, 2024. With the global community already hooked on this thrilling drama, I couldn’t help but wonder: how does the Netflix adaptation compare to the original webtoon’s ending? The anticipation was real!
instead of Ji-Su (from the webtoon) playing a significant role at the end, she is killed in episode 3 of Season 2 in the drama. Additionally, characters Eun-Hyeok (Lee Do-Hyun) and Eun-Yoo (Go Min-Si) experience different outcomes as well.
Sweet Home Season 3 ending is different than the webtoon ending
Towards the conclusion of the webtoon, Ji-Soo tries in vain to change Hyun-Su back from his monstrous form. After everyone else leaves the Green Home building, Eun-Hyuk undergoes a transformation to save Hyun-Su, only to become an unusual mass instead. This bizarre entity then absorbs Hyun-Su within itself.
Towards the conclusion of Sweet Home webtoon, two enigmatic cocoons emerge. From one of them, Hyun-Su emerges after hatching. Following this, he stumbles upon Ji-Soo’s phone and experiences an emotional breakdown. The epilogue presents a desolate world in the webtoon, where the temperature is freezing, and everything is covered in snow. Ji-Soo and other survivors have taken refuge in a military camp. As they watch, Hyun-Su approaches the camp’s gate, barefoot, surprising everyone. The series concludes with Hyun-Su discovering a renewed sense of purpose, family, and life within the camp.
As I eagerly watched the finale of Sweet Home K-drama, I was on the edge of my seat as Hyun-Su and Eun-Hyeok, a neohuman, joined forces to put an end to the devastating war between monsters and humans. In that pivotal moment, when the human within Sang-Won managed to subdue the monster lurking deep inside him, the long-awaited peace finally prevailed. Following the tragic transformation of Sergeant Tak In-Hwan into a monster, Sergeant Kim Young-Hoo courageously stepped up to lead the remaining survivors in their new journey towards rebuilding and hope.
In the finale of Sweet Home season 3, Eun-Yoo transforms into a monster. Unable to find her, both Eun-Hyeok and Hyun-Su are left in despair. However, Eun-Hyeok is assured that she will be reborn as one of his kind – the neohumans. Eventually, Eun-Hyeok and Hyun-Su went their separate ways.
Towards the finale of Sweet Home season 3, Hyun-Su manages to guide more survivors to the military camp, where they coexist under Kim Young-Hoo’s leadership. When it’s time for them to relocate, Hyun-Su proposes that they travel as a group. As they make their way to Hyun-Su, survivors and soldiers encounter several neohumans along the street. They embrace this new reality, albeit with some hesitation. The series concludes with Hyun-Su meeting up with Eun-Hyeok on a rooftop.
At that location, Eun-Yoo was observed by the two observers as she approached the edge, wearing earphones. They gave each other satisfied smiles. It seems that Eun-Yoo has transformed into a being beyond human, concluding the Sweet Home K-drama with Hyun-Su welcoming this new stage in their “Sweet Home.”
Although the K-drama’s conclusion varies from the Sweet Home webtoon, it provides an emotionally fulfilling and purging finale for the monster tale to its viewers.
