As a die-hard fan of Suriya and his enthralling cinematic journey, I must say that the recent controversy surrounding the limited screen time for Disha Patani in “Kanguva” has left me rather intrigued. While I understand the director’s vision to present a visually appealing character in Angela, I can’t help but feel a tad disappointed, much like a kid who was promised a toy and only received its packaging!
On November 14, 2024, Suriya’s big-screen venture titled “Kanguva” made its debut, garnering a mix of opinions from viewers since then. While many admirers of the actor have showered the film with glowing accolades, it has also faced a good deal of constructive criticism, particularly concerning the overpowering soundtrack and the insufficient screen presence for some actors, notably Disha Patani. More recently, KE Gnanavel Raja’s spouse, Neha, offered an intriguing response to these criticisms.
Discussions have been stirred up due to comments made by Neha Gnanavel regarding the limited screen presence of Disha Patani’s character, Angela, in the movie Kanguva. This statement has sparked conversation among many viewers.
On what appeared to be her now-deleted tweet (previously posted on X, formerly known as Twitter), she shared an insight that the primary purpose of the Bollywood actress’s character in the movie wasn’t so much about advancing the main storyline but rather enhancing the film’s visual beauty and charm.
She wrote, “Angela’s character isn’t the entire focus of Kanguva. She can’t dominate 2.5 hours of film! It’s basic, so yes, she was there to look pretty!!! It’s one brain and perspective (the director) presenting to crores of audiences! We welcome criticism, not targeted propaganda.”
A screenshot of Neha’s response has been going viral on social media, even though the original tweet has since been deleted.

On different occasions, individuals linked with the movie have come forward to back Kanguva. The film has received critique from certain spectators due to multiple reasons.
A few days past, I too stood up for Suriya’s movie amidst unfavorable critiques and comments. Posting a poster of Kanguva on my Instagram, I expressed that my defense wasn’t merely due to it being my husband’s production, but because I could distinguish between constructive criticism and harmful misinformation. Furthermore, I pointed out that the negative reviews seemed to be emphasized while the praiseworthy aspects of the film were often overshadowed.
In my perspective, it’s quite astonishing that some media outlets and circles have been critical of this film, considering they haven’t seemed to apply the same rigorous examination to other high-budget productions I’ve encountered. These movies often revolve around antiquated narratives, where women are subjected to stalking, harbor ambiguous dialogues, and excessively showcase extreme action scenes.
If you’re not familiar, the movie “Kanguva,” helmed by director Siva and featuring key performances from actors Suriya and Bobby Deol, earned approximately Rs. 470 million in its first three days at the box office.
