Jyotika, known for her exceptional acting skills, has left an indelible mark in the pan-Indian film industry, extending far beyond regional cinema’s borders. Following her marriage, she took a brief hiatus from acting, only reappearing on screen in 2015. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and recall when the actress of Shaitaan shared her thoughts on if her husband, actor Suriya, had ever discouraged her from returning to films.
During a past conversation with JFW, actress Jyotika clarified a common misunderstanding regarding her personal life. She explained that many people assumed her husband Suriya and his family had prevented her from resuming her acting career following their marriage, which was not the case.
Despite what some people were saying, the actress made clear that it was actually her husband, Suriya, who had endured unwarranted criticism. She also mentioned that he was the one pushing for her to return to acting as soon as possible from the start.
In her own words: “Many thought that Suriya and his family disapproved of me working after our wedding, but this wasn’t accurate. My decision not to work following our marriage was a deliberate choice, as I desired to prioritize my family life. Despite making it clear to the media about my intentions, Suriya was consistently asked about my return to acting.
Jyotika personally chose to step away for a while because she felt it was important to prioritize her family following her marriage. Additionally, she mentioned that Suriya often received inappropriate messages.
Whenever one of her films appears on TV, someone would send a message to Suriya saying, “Your wife’s movie is on TV now. She’s done an excellent job, maybe you should consider letting her act?” Immediately, he’d pass that along to me. He endured a good deal of pressure from friends and fans, all because of her.
Currently, Jyotika is actively working and has been consistently delivering impressive performances on screen, whether it’s the traditional cinema or streaming platforms. Her talent shines equally bright in both arenas.
