'Suraj Venjaramoodu asked me if transgender people feel the same pleasure as females': Anjali Ameer reveals on reporting the incident to Mammootty

As a lifestyle expert with a deep understanding of the entertainment industry, I am deeply saddened and concerned by the experiences shared by Anjali Ameer, a brave transwoman actor, who faced such an unacceptable and inappropriate situation during the filming of Peranbu. It is disheartening to see that even in this day and age, there are individuals who still engage in such behavior, causing distress to their colleagues.

In simple terms, Anjali Ameer, a transgender actress and model from Malayalam cinema, recently shared an upsetting incident that occurred during the filming of her first movie. She disclosed that her co-star Suraj Venjaramoodu made her feel uneasy on the set by asking inappropriate and intrusive questions towards her.

In an interview with Mathrubhumi, Anjali expressed doubts about whether transgender individuals can enjoy the same level of female pleasure as cisgender women.

Stunned by his actions, the actress went and informed both Mammootty (the actor) and the movie’s director about what happened. Later on, Suraj expressed his apologies for his disrespectful remarks.

Regarding the incident, Anjali expressed that she had never encountered such distressing questions before Suraj Venjaramoodu inquired about transgender people’s feelings towards pleasure compared to females. Despite being a robust individual, this question left her fuming. She asserted herself and reported the matter to Mammootty and the director. Venjaramoodu apologized for his behavior, and since then, he has not addressed her in such an offensive way again, which she acknowledges as a positive step.

The actress also noted that many kind individuals populate the entertainment business. Regrettably, some unfortunate incidents involving unacceptable conduct by a few persist, and this issue is indeed troubling.

Anjali noted that while there are numerous kind individuals within the industry, it’s important to remember that some may still request concessions or favors. She, as the Peranbu actress, emphasized maintaining clear professional boundaries to protect herself from potential exploitation.

In the aftermath of the Hema Committee report’s release, many well-known figures in the Malayalam film industry have faced accusations of misconduct. These severe allegations have prompted Mohanlal to step down from his role as President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), along with other committee members including Tovino Thomas.

Initially, finding myself in a challenging situation, I stepped down from my role as General Secretary of AMMA following allegations of sexual misconduct. Subsequently, the entire committee has been disbanded.

Instead, AMMA announced that a fresh team will take over leadership roles within the next two months.
