This coming weekend, “Superman” will make its global debut, putting DC Studios to a significant box office challenge, with James Gunn directing the movie. Early signs point towards the film setting the direction for the franchise’s upcoming projects.

According to reports, the initial DC Studios movie under “Gods and Monsters,” featuring Superman, is expected to gross over $200 million worldwide within its debut weekend.
The movie will be premiered simultaneously across approximately 60,000 screens globally, with an equal number in both domestic and foreign territories. In the United States and Canada, initial predictions indicate that Superman could gross between $115 million and $130 million during its opening run.
Advance ticket sales for Superman in the U.S. have surpassed $20 million, topping both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s opening of $118.4 million and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s $106.1 million (as reported by Deadline).
By Friday, the movie will be shown in approximately 4,000 domestic venues, encompassing all leading premium cinema formats. Preliminary showings have already taken place, such as exclusive screenings for Amazon Prime members and Thursday previews held at around 3,400 theaters.
On Wednesday, the worldwide debut took place in France, Italy, and South Korea. By Friday, other significant regions such as the United Kingdom, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Spain, Australia, China, and Japan were also set to start their screenings.
Initial data suggests a high level of enthusiasm in the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Mexico. Pre-sale figures from China indicate strong demand for screenings on Thursday and Friday. Noteworthy promotional activities in Rio de Janeiro and London featured an impressive Superman statue at The Shard.
The movie’s general response has been positive, boosting its popularity. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts a 86% Fresh certification, receiving acclaim for aspects such as its mood, direction, and acting from numerous critics, along with various other elements.
Superman continues a storied tradition that encompasses the 1978 Richard Donner movie and Zack Snyder’s 2013 Man of Steel (grossing $670.1M worldwide). Warner Bros. anticipates this latest iteration will breathe new life into the franchise and set the style for its upcoming cinematic world.
