Superman’s James Gunn Reveals First Look at the DCU’s Krypto the Superdog

As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast, I must say that this revelation about Krypto’s role in Superman has me more than just a little excited! James Gunn’s unique storytelling and his personal touch make every project he takes on feel special. The fact that Krypto was inspired by his own dog Ozu adds an extra layer of authenticity to the character, making him even more endearing.

James Gunn has shared the first look at Superman’s Krypto the Superdog.

In July 2025, you can catch the premiere of “Superman” in U.S. cinemas. This movie, helmed by director Gunn, marks the initial official feature film within the upcoming DC Universe.

Gunn recently unveiled a sneak peek at Clark Kent’s super-powered dog, Krypto. Originally conceived by Otto Binder and Curt Swan in 1955’s Adventure Comics #210, this canine character is similar to Superman in many ways, as they both hail from Krypton and share powers akin to the Man of Steel.

What did James Gunn say about Krypto’s role in Superman?

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that this summer, Krypto will make his screen debut in Superman. You see, the idea for Krypto was sparked by our adopted dog, Ozu, who joined our family not long after I began crafting the Superman story.
