As a longtime gamer and avid fan of superheroes, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation every time there’s an update about the upcoming Superman film. James Gunn’s latest post about wrapping up filming in Cleveland was no exception.
James Gunn shared new information about the production of the upcoming DC Universe film featuring Superman. The team recently completed filming in Cleveland and marked the occasion with a celebration.
What is the latest Superman update?
On Wednesdays, I hopped onto Threads to pay tribute to my favorite city – Cleveland. I shared a heartfelt collection of photos and expressed how this place holds a special significance for me. The people there, who played crucial roles as background actors in various productions, reminded me once again of the genuine reason behind making movies – their warmth and authenticity.
In a recent post, Gunn expressed his appreciation for the charming background actors on the film set who added fun and humor with their clapping after takes. This simple act brought Hollywood skeptics back to why we create movies in the first place. Additionally, being in the location where Jerry and Joe originated Superman gave him a renewed sense of pride. Yet, it was equally the pride he felt for his community, hometown, radio stations, restaurants, and gathering places that left a deep impact on him.
Gunn explained to some inquisitive fans that while filming in Cleveland had recently finished, production on the project was not yet completed. Rather, they were moving on to the next phase of a lengthy shooting schedule.
“Gunn admitted, ‘We haven’t finished filming yet.’ We recently wrapped up in Cleveland, but there are still a few more weeks to go. The production process is lengthy, but we’re nearing the end!”
In the film’s description, Superman recounts his experience of blending his Kryptonian origins with his upbringing as Clark Kent from Smallville, Kansas. He represents honesty, fairness, and American values, but is influenced by human compassion in a society that finds such virtues outdated.
In this adaptation, David Corenswet of “Pearl” and “The Politician” fame will don the cape as Superman. Joining him is Rachel Brosnahan from “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” who brings Lois Lane to life. Additionally, we have Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela De Faría, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, and Anthony Carrigan on board. The movie is slated for a July 11, 2025 release.
