Superman: Krypto Spin-off Gets an Update From James Gunn, Will Be Animated

James Gunn has confirmed plans for a series of Krypto shorts.

Next month, I’ll be eagerly waiting to catch Gunn’s Superman movie in US theaters! This time around, we’ve got David Corenswet stepping into the iconic cape as our favorite superhero, with Rachel Brosnahan bringing Lois Lane to life on screen, and Nicholas Hoult taking on the role of Lex Luthor. Can’t wait to see Krypto in action too!

In February 2025, Gunn announced that Krypto would appear in a series of humorous short films after making his debut in the DCU as Superman’s sidekick. He shared at the time, “We have these fantastic, entertaining Krypto shorts! I’ve been enjoying them immensely. He’s a mischievous and naughty dog, but suitable for families. It’s just a lot of fun and silly.

What did Superman’s James Gunn say about the Krypto shorts?

Since the fall launch of the shorts collection, which is expected to consist of four pieces, we haven’t received many updates on the project lately.

Currently, Gunn has addressed a post on social platforms, affirming that the initial plans are still underway. Additionally, it appears that Gunn has hinted that these upcoming shorts will be created using animation instead of live action.

At the moment, specifics about the storyline and the streaming service where these short videos might debut are yet to be disclosed.

Meanwhile, Superman soars onto theater screens on July 11, 2025, courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures. Joining him in the film are actors such as Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Anthony Carrigan, Wendell Pierce, and others.

As a gamer, I’m all geared up for the summer release of “Superman,” DC Studios’ inaugural big-screen adventure from Warner Bros. Pictures! In his unique storytelling fashion, James Gunn breathes fresh life into this iconic superhero in the revamped DC universe, merging spectacular action sequences, witty humor, and heartfelt emotions. This Superman isn’t just about power; he’s a character driven by empathy and an unwavering faith in human kindness, making him a hero worth rooting for!
