James Gunn is opening up about the big twist featured in Superman.
Currently showing in U.S. cinemas and IMAX screens is the Superman film jointly produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. This movie, scripted and directed by Gunn, features David Corenswet portraying the main character, Superman, Rachel Brosnahan playing Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
In this movie, Bradley Cooper and Angela Sarafyan portray Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s biological parents. Approximately midway through the film, a surprising revelation unfolds: unlike past depictions of Superman, Kal-El was dispatched to Earth with a sinister purpose – to conquer the planet and procure as many wives as necessary in order to rejuvenate the Kryptonian species.
What did James Gunn say about the twist in Superman?
Speaking with IGN, Gunn discussed the moment and why he included it in the movie.
When it comes to Superman, I’m a devoted fan. To maintain his core characteristics while also introducing changes that could enhance the story for the DC Universe, I had to trust my instincts. This involved modifying certain aspects of the tale in an engaging way without compromising Superman’s essence. It’s something that has been experimented with in the comics previously.
The Superman production features Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and additional characters.
The first feature film of Superman from DC Studios is ready to fly into cinemas globally this summer, courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures. According to the official summary, director James Gunn breathes new life into the original superhero in a unique way within the revamped DC universe. This fresh take combines exhilarating action, humor, and emotion, resulting in a Superman who acts out of compassion and faith in human kindness.
