Superman Easter egg reveals Jay Garrick’s Flash and other heroes

In James Gunn’s DC Universe, it became clear that characters like The Flash and other Justice Society of America members, who are also known as the JSA, coexist with Superman. This revelation is hinted at by a mural displayed inside the Hall of Justice.

In the film, Rachel Brosnahan’s character, Lois Lane who works for Daily Planet, is on a mission to uncover the reason behind Superman’s vanishing act. During this quest, she finds herself at the Metropolis headquarters of an elite team known as the Justice Gang, or the Hall of Justice. Eagerly, Lois seeks their assistance in locating Superman. The team comprises Green Lantern Guy Gardner (portrayed by Nathan Fillion), Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced).

As their discussion unfolds, a mural gradually emerges, depicting the Justice Society of America (JSA), DC’s first superhero team. This mural adorns the interior walls of the Hall of Justice, where keen-eyed fans can identify characters like Jay Garrick’s Flash, the original Sandman, and Wesley Dodds, among others. The JSA made their debut in All-Star Comics #3, a comic published in 1940. They were the pioneers of metahuman teams. The members of this esteemed group include Green Lantern, Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Hourman, the Spectre, Atom, and the Flash.

In the build-up to the release of the rebooted DC Universe’s Superman film, director Gunn playfully hinted that metahumans have been around for three centuries in this new continuity. At a London event discussing Easter eggs, he mentioned an impactful scene featuring a massive mural detailing the history of metahumans within the DCU. He found the process of crafting this world to be exciting and enjoyable, promising fans that the unveiling of these images would be equally engaging.
