Superman: DCU Movie Reportedly Has Star Wars-Like Opening

Superman reportedly has a Star Wars-like opening crawl at the start of the movie.

In just under a month, Superman will make his appearance in American cinemas. This upcoming film, penned and directed by James Gunn, is a collaboration between Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios. The lead roles include David Corenswet portraying the main character, Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Although Creature Commandos marked the initial venture in Gunn and Safran’s DC Universe, Superman will be the debut movie within their new interconnected universe. Unlike a typical origin tale, this universe already features superheroes living among us from the start.

What do we know about the opening of Superman?

At a Superman press conference held in Brazil, it’s reported that the beginning of the upcoming movie might resemble the start of the 1977 Star Wars film. It’s uncertain if this implies an actual scrolling text or simply informative text; nonetheless, it appears there will be some on-screen explanations to establish the DC Universe context.

In addition to Henry Cavill playing Superman, the cast also features Edi Gathegi portraying Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion in the role of Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., and María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer.

The initial feature film from DC Studios, ‘Superman’, is scheduled to fly into cinemas globally this summer, courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures. According to the official plot summary, director James Gunn reimagines the classic superhero within a fresh DC universe, combining grand action sequences, humor, and emotional depth. This Superman is portrayed as a character motivated by compassion and his faith in humanity’s inherent goodness.

Superman will be released in theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025.
