Under the guidance of James Gunn, who served as both writer and director, a film was created featuring DC Comics characters. Filming commenced in February 2024 and continued for multiple months, eventually wrapping up in July of the same year.
In addition to Corenswet, the Superman cast also features Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult stepping into the role of Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion taking on both Guy Gardner and Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt (also known as Mister Terrific), Anthony Carrigan playing Rex Mason (better known as Metamorpho), María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica (The Engineer), and Isabela Merced bringing Hawkgirl to life.
2019 saw Corenswet expressing his lofty aspiration to portray a cheerful and optimistic version of Superman in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. However, in a more recent chat with The Associated Press, he elaborated on this statement.
He clarified, “What I referred to as my lofty, unattainable dream was simply me expressing doubt about its feasibility. In essence, I was musing over the idea of having the opportunity to play such an iconic role. It seemed so fantastical and beyond reach that it felt like a dream.
Superman premieres in US theaters on July 11, 2025.
