James Gunn has confirmed that Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are expected to join forces in the future within the new DC Universe. In a recent interview, he hinted at possible plans for these legendary characters to come together, emphasizing that their union won’t be immediate and will depend on how upcoming DC projects develop.
Don’t expect Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman to unite DCU in next movie
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited to share some insights about the upcoming DC Universe (DCU). When asked if we’ll see Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman teaming up in the near future, famed director James Gunn confirmed it! However, it won’t be happening in the next movie. This announcement comes as we step into a fresh chapter for the DCU, starting with the new Superman flick, helmed by none other than Gunn and featuring David Corenswet in the titular role.
Indeed, James Gunn talks about a potential team-up of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman on the big screen. However, it won’t be happening in the upcoming film.

The upcoming movie will present a fresh take on Superman and establish foundations for the wider DC Universe. Previous comments from Gunn suggest that the next film may not be a direct sequel to Superman’s story, sparking discussions about a potential partnership with Batman in a World’s Finest format. While Batman is set to appear in “The Brave and the Bold”, a solo Wonder Woman DCU film is currently being developed.
Gunn also shared thoughts on possible castings. On the show “Threads,” he commended Brandon Sklenar’s performance, saying, “That series was fantastic.” He also expressed admiration for Adria Arjona, suggesting she could excel as Wonder Woman, following their collaboration in “The Belko Experiment” (as reported by Extra TV). These comments have sparked discussions about their potential roles within the DC Universe.
In anticipation, Superman’s movie is creating a significant stir at the box office, having garnered more than $10 million in advance ticket sales. Predictions within the industry suggest an opening weekend revenue ranging from $95 million to $135 million. The film boasts David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult portraying Lex Luthor.
New characters joining the lineup are Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan). Supergirl, portrayed by Milly Alcock, will make her appearance prior to her role in the film “Woman of Tomorrow.
Filming for the Superman movie wrapped up last year, and here’s what director James Gunn expressed: “I aimed to create a film about a good man in a world that isn’t always kind… for that, I will forever be thankful.” It has been announced that all future DC live-action movies, including the new Superman, will be integrated into the revamped DC Universe under the guidance of Gunn and Peter Safran.
Superman is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
