David Krumholtz, fresh from being in Christopher Nolan’s latest production, “Oppenheimer,” and British actress Emily Beecham have signed on to appear in the space-traveling cast of “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” a project directed by Craig Gillespie under the banner of Warner Bros. Discovery’s DC Studios.
The production, commencing this week at DC’s Leavesden studio in the UK, draws inspiration from the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic book mini-series. In it, House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock portrays Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin.
It’s uncertain how closely Ana Nogueira’s script adheres to the original comic, as it deviated from typical good versus evil themes and focused more on character development across various worlds and alien societies. The 2021 story, which was nominated for an Eisner award, is narrated from a young alien girl named Ruthye’s perspective. She seeks Supergirl’s help in her quest for vengeance against Krem of the Yellow Hills, who was responsible for her father’s death.
On the call list, Eve Ridley goes by Ruthye, while Matthias Schoenaerts is known as Krem. The role of alien bounty hunter Lobo will be played by Jason Momoa in a guest appearance.
Krumholtz and Beecham will play Supergirl’s parents.
