Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Casts Jason Momoa as DCU’s Lobo

As a lifelong comic book fan and avid gamer, I can’t help but feel like my dreams are finally coming true with the news that Jason Momoa will be playing Lobo in the DCU! Growing up, I remember collecting comics and fantasizing about who could bring the infamous interstellar mercenary to life. When Momoa was cast as Aquaman, I thought it was a perfect fit, but never did I imagine that he would one day play Lobo too!

I’ve always been a fan of Momoa’s acting style and charisma, so I have no doubt that he will bring the same energy to Lobo. Plus, with his muscular build and tough-guy demeanor, he looks like he was born to play the role.

I can only imagine what it must feel like for Momoa himself to finally get the opportunity to play such an iconic character. I can’t help but feel a little envious, as I too have always wanted to step into the world of comic books and bring my favorite characters to life. But until then, I’ll just have to settle for watching Momoa do it instead!

One thing I’m curious about is whether Lobo will be portrayed as an antihero or a full-on villain in the DCU. Either way, I’m excited to see how Momoa brings this chaotic and destructive character to life on the big screen. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll get the chance to play a small role in the DCU myself – I can always dream!

Joke: I guess I’ll have to settle for playing Lobo in my next Dungeons & Dragons game instead!

It’s official: Jason Momoa will play Lobo in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU.

Previously, Jason Momoa portrayed Arthur Curry/Aquaman within the DCEU, wrapping up with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023. Since then, Momoa has expressed interest in taking on the role of Lobo, a character originating from DC Comics by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen. However, as of yet, there hasn’t been an official confirmation regarding this potential transition to the new DCU.

On Instagram, Momoa shared a quote he said in an interview with Fandango in 2023.

So Lobo was my all-time favorite comic book character, one I’ve always been eager to portray. I used to collect comics a lot more, but even now, I feel it’s the ideal role for me. If they ever reach out and ask me to play him, you can bet your boots! However, I haven’t received that call yet, so let’s not spread any rumors. But if they ever invite me to audition or offer the part, count me in!

Momoa’s Instagram caption for the post, which can be viewed below, simply reads: “They called.”

Who is Lobo in DC Comics?

In the realm of DC Comics, Lobo is a complex character often classified as an anti-hero but with a strong leaning towards villainy. He operates as both an interstellar soldier and a bounty hunter across the cosmos. Similar to Superman, Lobo hails from an extraterrestrial world, yet his planet’s demise has a darker origin – Lobo himself is responsible for the massacre of its inhabitants, not out of necessity or revenge, but simply for amusement.

As per Deadline’s report, the character Lobo, played by Jason Momoa, is set to appear in the upcoming movie “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” slated for release in 2026. This film will be directed by Craig Gillespie, who has previously worked on projects like “I, Tonya” (2017) and “Dumb Money” (2023). The storyline is adapted from the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. In the lead role, we’ll see Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hill, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be released in United States theaters on June 26, 2026.
