Supergirl: DCU Movie Gets New Title, Drops Woman of Tomorrow

The movie previously known as “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” has been slightly rebranded, as revealed by James Gunn, one of the co-heads at DC Studios.

What is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’s new name?

In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, director James Gunn clarified that the title for the upcoming movie featuring Supergirl has changed from “Woman of Tomorrow” to simply “Supergirl.

As explained by Gunn, the title alteration for this movie and the initial title of Superman, “Superman: Legacy,” stems from a method called a “premortem” that DC Studios employs.

Gunn explained, “A premortem is a meeting where your project team gathers, typically a couple of months before launch. The idea is to discuss hypothetically, ‘If this project turns out to be a catastrophic failure, what are the actions we’re taking right now that might lead to such a disaster?’ Encouraging open dialogue, people can express their honest concerns without fear of repercussion. For instance, it could be a concern like, ‘I’m worried about this actor’s suitability for the role,’ or ‘The production designer has a history of being late.’

Oh yes, definitely change it.

On June 26, 2026, you can catch Supergirl hitting the big screens across the United States. This will be the second movie in the upcoming DC Universe by James Gunn and Peter Safran, with 2025’s Superman having paved the way first.

In the main role of Kara Zor-El/Supergirl will be Milly Alcock. Joining her in the upcoming DCU film are Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and others. The movie is being directed by Craig Gillespie, who has previously worked on movies like Lars and the Real Girl (2007), Fright Night (2011), I, Tonya (2017), Cruella (2021), and most recently Dumb Money (2023).
