Succession’s Kieran Culkin Reveals Why He Hasn’t Seen the Series Finale

As a long-time fan of HBO’s Succession and a fellow gamer who has spent countless hours navigating the complex world of the Roy family, I find it utterly amusing that Kieran Culkin, the brilliant actor behind Roman Roy, missed the finale of his own show! It’s like being the captain on a pirate ship and missing the final treasure hunt because you were off playing Fortnite.

After making its debut on small screens in 2018, HBO’s “Succession” has become renowned as one of the most gripping dramas ever produced. The series delves into the power struggles within the Roy family, each member vying for control of Waystar RoyCo, a vast media conglomerate. Although some viewers consider Season 4 to be the pinnacle of television enjoyment, not everyone has watched the final episode of this season, even some cast members like Kieran Culkin, who plays Roman Roy on the show, have yet to see it.

Kieran Culkin didn’t watch Succession’s finale as he ‘missed the moment’

As a devoted fan, I must confess that despite my significant role in Succession as the unpredictable Roman Roy, Kieran Culkin admits he hasn’t had the chance to witness the final episode of our own series. It seems this peculiar situation is due to scheduling clashes, which unfortunately kept him from being present for the climactic moment.

During his latest interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actor known for Home Alone shared an unexpected piece of information. This tidbit came up as Culkin discussed the enthusiastic reactions to the finale of Succession. He disclosed that while Succession’s last episodes were being aired, he was simultaneously working on A Real Pain with Jesse Eisenberg.

The actor mentioned that while he was in Poland filming a movie, the final three episodes of Succession Season 4 were airing on Max. Unfortunately, he couldn’t access his account at the time, so his wife posted an appeal on Instagram asking if anyone could provide their login details so he could catch up. After getting several offers, he successfully watched episodes eight and nine of the season.

After switching hotels without a smart TV prior to the last one, Culkin explained, “I couldn’t catch it back then. After taking some time off, I returned home, enjoyed my vacation, and so on. You know, when it’s been a few months old? I sort of missed the peak moment.

As a die-hard fan, I must admit that while Kieran Culkin may have steered clear of watching himself and the rest of the Succession cast shine brightly in the finale, the culmination of the series finally brought him the recognition and limelight his exceptional talent merited. With three consecutive Golden Globe nominations under his belt, the actor ultimately clinched the prestigious award for his portrayal of Roman Roy in 2024, a testament to his undeniable skills on screen.
