Student Driver and Renown recently collaborated to launch the SD Racing Steering Wheel, a limited edition product with only 50 pieces available. These were snapped up incredibly quickly within the last few days.
2023 saw the inception of a partnership between Daniel Wu, Sung Kang’s Student Driver brand, and Scott Woltman’s Renown, which started off as a leisurely conversation at Laguna Seca Raceway. Over time, this discussion evolved into an exciting project that combines the rich history of motorsports with contemporary artisanship.
In San Francisco, a well-known company known for producing steering wheels for classic and vintage sports cars collaborated with Student Driver to develop a design tailored for car enthusiasts. This 100mm deep-dish wheel showcases brushed matte black spokes made of strong 6061 aluminum, high-quality charcoal leather, and the signature green stitching that is a hallmark of SD Racing. “STUDENT DRIVER” embroidery adorns both sides for a unique touch, and a custom Student Driver horn button adds the final touch to its appealing appearance.
As a passionate admirer, I can’t help but express my excitement about this 350mm-diameter wheel featuring a 6-bolt 70mm PCD mounting pattern, engineered for high-octane driving experiences. Whether it’s carving through twisty canyon roads or taking on the drift track, this wheel is designed to handle aggressive maneuvers with ease. The buzz surrounding Student Driver and Renown’s custom wheels is palpable, demonstrating a growing appreciation for their work. Though we don’t have an official restock date yet, Woltman hinted at future collaborations in a chat with TopMob, which has me eagerly looking forward to what’s next!
