Netflix has shared new information about the upcoming animated spin–off, Tales of ’85.
Timeline and Setting
The story unfolds in the winter of 1985, bridging the gap between seasons two and three of Stranger Things. Once again, we’ll visit recognizable spots like Hawkins Middle School, Hopper’s cabin, the arcade, and the lab, but this time they’ll be depicted in an animated style.
Characters And Story
In the revamped storyline, we’ll see familiar faces like Mike, Eleven, Will, Dustin, Max, Lucas, and Hopper. A fresh, supernatural danger looms, and alongside these characters will be introduced Nikki Baxter, a resourceful girl with a penchant for fixing things and an unusual pink hairdo. Although the specific details of the plot are under wraps, the series is anticipated to delve into a new enigma unfolding in Hawkins town.
Animation Style
80s-inspired animation is planned for Tales of ’85, reminiscent of old school animated shows from the 80s. The mood seems more lighthearted and artistic, possibly catering to a younger demographic. This change in atmosphere may also involve fresh voice talents as Netflix has yet to announce if any original cast members will reprise their roles.
The spin-off is being created by Eric Robles and is being animated by Flying Bark Productions, known for their work on “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”. The executive producers are the Duffer Brothers, Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Hilary Leavitt, all of whom have previously worked on the main series.
When Will It Release?
2026 is when we can expect the show to debut on Netflix, but the exact launch date remains unannounced. It’s yet undecided if “Tales of ’85” will be connected to the mainline “Stranger Things” narrative or tell its own unique tale independently.
