As a seasoned researcher with a penchant for exploring the intersections of technology and social dynamics, I find this latest development in the Telegram space intriguing. The independent creation of a Sticker Shop that allows users to buy, trade, and collect NFT stickers is an innovative approach to introduce blockchain technology to a broader audience.
A unique development is about to be introduced into the Telegram community, enabling users to acquire and swap exclusive digital stickers (NFTs) through the TON blockchain. Although inspired by the vision of Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov, this project isn’t an official Telegram initiative or collaboration with Durov himself. Instead, it has been independently created by Open Builders, who are also responsible for the popular game Notcoin, in conjunction with the DOGS meme coin community.
The Open Builders and DOGS meme coin team have unveiled their Sticker Marketplace, enabling Telegram users an innovative method to savor their preferred stickers as unique digital treasures known as NFTs. Unlike conventional stickers, these NFTs allow users to possess, trade, and even re-sell them on platforms such as Getgems. Transactions are conducted using Stars, Telegram’s in-app currency, which is associated with the TON cryptocurrency. Each collection of stickers has a limited supply, creating potential interest among collectors.
According to Sasha Plotvinov, founder of Notcoin and Open Builders, an astounding 500 billion stickers are exchanged monthly by Telegram users. This figure underscores the increasing appeal of stickers on this platform. Plotvinov proposes that tokenized stickers could potentially serve as a means to familiarize more individuals with the concept of blockchain technology. In simpler terms, he suggests that using digital tokens for stickers could help people understand and engage with blockchain technology more easily.
More than 500 billion stickers are shared each month by users on Telegram, marking a significant trend towards tokenized stickers as a means of widespread acceptance in the digital world.
The platform is currently creating quite a stir with collaborations that include high-profile projects such as Pudgy Penguins, Flappy Bird, and Bored Ape Yacht Club. Moreover, Blum, a popular trading app on Telegram, plans to introduce a line of exclusive stickers, while the DOGS community is set to unveil its “Royal Canines” collection, a tribute to their meme-based cryptocurrency.
This endeavor aligns with Durov’s concept of tokenizing stickers, a topic he touched upon earlier this year. Notably, the Sticker Shop is a separate venture by the Open Builders team, leveraging the TON blockchain to merge Telegram’s thriving sticker community with blockchain technology. This collaboration offers content creators a novel method for monetizing their creations and enables users to acquire and trade unique digital stickers.
Telegram Enhances Creator Tools with New Features
The latest move by Open Builders and DOGS teams is a response to Telegram’s recent unveiling of a novel feature. This feature enables content creators and mini-app developers to monetize their work and expand their following. Content creators are now rewarded with Stars, an in-app currency from Telegram, for their contributions. Mini-app developers can leverage these tools to draw more users towards their applications. Furthermore, Telegram users can now access AI-generated stickers and assemble photo and video collages to share within their stories.
The AI-powered sticker search makes it easier to find the right sticker. By using a custom AI model, users can now search for stickers with multiple keywords and instantly get results from over 40,000 stickers in Telegram’s official packs.
