As a long-time follower of Steven Spohn‘s inspiring journey, I find myself both saddened and exhilarated by his decision to move on from AbleGamers. It’s bittersweet to see him step away from an organization he’s dedicated 20 years of his life to, but I wholeheartedly support his decision to embark on a new adventure.
After an extraordinary 20-year voyage, Steven Spohn, a prominent advocate for AbleGamers, is ready to embark on a fresh adventure as he steps down from his role. Spohn has hinted at a new endeavor without disclosing the specifics, but hinted that something significant will be unveiled in December. He expressed his excitement about sharing the tales of gaming enthusiasts with disabilities through potential documentaries in the future.
This week, Steven Spohn announced his departure from AbleGamers via a post on his personal social media. In the statement, Spohn expressed that he has no plans to halt his advocacy work for disabled individuals. However, he feels that he’s accomplished everything he intended with AbleGamers over the past two decades, including raising awareness and support for the disabled, enabling them to experience the joy of gaming, gaining recognition for AbleGamers among influential figures in the world, and much more. Spohn extends his gratitude to everyone at AbleGamers and those who have supported the charity throughout its existence, acknowledging their essential role in shaping it into what it is today.
The biggest announcement of my career. My 20 years at AbleGamers.
Can we talk for a minute?

Spohn plans to keep working in the field of accessibility and hinted at a new project on December 2, 2024. He feels confident that AbleGamers is well taken care of, but being aware of his terminal condition, he wants to use the time remaining to further his efforts to aid and raise awareness for disabled gamers. He mentioned the possibility of creating a documentary to share the stories of people with disabilities and increase support for accessibility on a global scale.
2020 saw me, Steven Spohn, honored as Shacknews Person of the Year – a title I wear with pride and determination. As I look forward, I’m excited about the paths ahead, knowing that my mission remains unchanged: to bring more positivity to the gaming world and make sure everyone can enjoy games. Keep an eye out on December 2nd and beyond for what’s next in my journey!
