In the process of creating Jurassic World Rebirth, renowned director Steven Spielberg served as an executive producer and offered his insights to screenwriter David Koepp. During the development stage of this new dinosaur-themed adventure, Spielberg provided feedback on what he envisioned for the film.
What did Steven Spielberg require from Jurassic World Rebirth?
As I chatted it up with The Hollywood Reporter, Koepp opened up about Spielberg’s role in Jurassic World: Rebirth. You know me, I wrote the scripts for Jurassic Park and The Lost World. Well, Koepp spilled the beans on what matters most to Spielberg when it comes to Rebirth.
Koepp explained that Spielberg wanted Jurassic World Rebirth to be thrilling and filled with new, unseen elements. He emphasized the importance of making the science as realistic as possible. Moreover, Spielberg was keen on avoiding any self-references or references to his previous work in this film specifically, as he dislikes repetition. If something felt too familiar, he would advise against it, saying, “Didn’t I already do that? Don’t do that.
Spielberg was the one who hired Koepp to write another screenplay for Jurassic Park. According to Koepp, Spielberg feels a sense of “obligation” or responsibility to continue the Jurassic series because he played a role in its creation.
In that very interview, Koepp stated that Spielberg was the originator of this franchise. He seemed to take pride in it, implying a sense of care and responsibility. This led him to ponder, “How can we continue this? What would make it exceptional?
In the five-year span following Jurassic World Dominion’s events, Zora Bennett spearheads an expedition comprising paleontologists and mercenaries to a secluded island inhabited by dinosaurs. Their objective is to gather DNA samples from the three largest dinosaurs found on land, water, and in flight. This DNA could potentially be utilized to develop a life-saving drug. However, the dinosaurs demonstrate their agency by defending their territory against the human intruders.
In the movie “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” we find Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Ed Skrein taking on roles.
