Steven Spielberg Gives Retirement Update Ahead of New UFO Movie

Steven Spielberg isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Yesterday, Universal Pictures hosted a special occasion honoring esteemed filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who has won an Academy Award. During this event, they officially revealed their latest theater specifically designed for the director of iconic films like Jaws and E.T.

At the gathering, Spielberg delivered a talk focusing on the revival of film studios and also provided an update on his retirement plans to the audience present there.

What was Steven Spielberg’s retirement update?

As the final part of his speech, Spielberg revealed his intentions to continue directing films, emphasizing that retirement is not on his horizon. This announcement precedes the upcoming UFO movie, set to premiere in theaters this coming summer.

Hey there! As a gaming enthusiast speaking, let me share something heartfelt: “I just want you all to know, I’ve got a deep love for each one of you. By the way, I’m pumping out plenty of cinematic adventures and I can assure you, I’ve never even thought about hanging up my director’s hat.” – Spielberg, your friendly neighborhood movie maker.

Titled as yet, the upcoming UFO film boasts a screenplay penned by David Koepp, who also worked on Jurassic Park. The story originates from an idea conceived by an Academy Award-winning director. This represents Steven Spielberg’s return to science fiction since his 2018 adaptation of Ready Player One. Following The Fabelmans, which was a semi-autobiographical film released in 2022 and garnered seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Michelle Williams), and Best Supporting Actor (Judd Hirsch), this will be Spielberg’s subsequent directorial feature project.

In this UFO movie, the star-studded cast features Emily Blunt, known for her role in “Oppenheimer”, Wyatt Russell from “Thunderbolts”, Josh O’Connor of “The Crown”, Colman Domingo of “Rustin”, Colin Firth, famously recognized for his work in “The King’s Speech”, Eve Hewson, who appeared in “The Perfect Couple”, and Noah Robbins, star of “Fly Me to the Moon”. The production is under Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger from Amblin Entertainment, with Chris Brigham also involved.

The filming for the UFO movie has now been completed. At present, specifics about the storyline are kept secret, but it’s set to be released by Universal Pictures on June 12, 2026.
