As a seasoned gamer and tech-savvy individual who has seen the digital landscape evolve over the past few decades, I can’t help but shake my head at the recurring trend of fake death reports circulating online. It’s like a never-ending game of Whack-a-Mole, where each time you think you’ve squashed one false report, another pops up somewhere else.
It has been revealed that a rumor about the demise of comedian and TV host Steve Harvey, which spread across the internet, was untrue. There’s a strong likelihood that this initial report, first published on a website and subsequently shared by a popular news aggregator platform, was automated or generated using artificial intelligence (AI).
False report of Steve Harvey’s death confuses fans
As a gamer, I stumbled upon an article claiming my favorite comedian, Steve Harvey, had tragically passed away on December 17, with a publishing date set for a distant future in 2024. Titled “Steve Harvey Passed Away Today: Remembering The Legacy Of A Comedy Legend,” the piece spread like wildfire across various platforms after it appeared on a round-up site. However, upon further investigation, I discovered that this article was nothing more than a computer-generated fake news story by AI, according to TheWrap. It’s important for us all to stay vigilant and fact-check our sources to avoid being misled by such hoaxes.
Ever since rumors of a hoax started spreading, various online platforms have attempted to get in touch with Harvey and his team. To my delight, Harvey has been quite active on social media as late as November 19th, which clearly debunks the false claim that he’s been unresponsive or silent.
In a Facebook post, Harvey expressed that his father was his greatest backer. He added, “Dads, it’s often just one instance of your support that helps our kids find their way or take flight with their aspirations.
It’s no surprise that the untrue reports sparked anger across social media platforms. User @toria_shay86 on X (previously known as Twitter) expressed her frustration by saying, “The internet really needs to stop manipulating people’s feelings. Those bogus news stories claiming Steve Harvey is dead are nonsense. I can’t believe it.
User @Dahvee32 shared, “Good morning! Did anyone else receive news about Steve Harvey passing away this morning, only to find it was a hoax or spam link?
On more than one occasion, untrue rumors about 67-year-old Harvey’s death have spread online. In one such instance, Harvey humorously debunked the hoax by posting a meme on X, accompanied by the caption, “Me seeing that RIP Harvey is trending.
