Who is Steve Bannon?

Between 1977 and 1983, Bannon worked as an officer for the US Navy. Once his military career ended, he shifted to Goldman Sachs as an investment banker. In 1993, he took charge at Biosphere 2, an earth science research facility in Oracle, Arizona. Later, in 2007, he founded Breitbart News, often called the voice of the alt-right movement. He was a member of Cambridge Analytica’s board, a data firm that ceased operations in 2018. Additionally, Bannon has produced several films as an executive producer.
During the 2016 U.S. presidential election campaign, Bannon was an essential member, holding the position of CEO. After Trump’s victory, Bannon took on the roles of chief strategist and senior advisor to the President until his separation from the administration in August 2017.
Following his departure from the White House, Bannon found himself working abroad. In 2018, Michael Wolff released his book titled “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” which contained some critical remarks about Donald Trump’s children that were allegedly attributed to Bannon. This reportedly strained the relationship between Trump and Bannon.
Why did Steve Bannon go to prison?
As a fervent supporter looking back, it’s worth noting that even amidst the perceived distance, Trump granted a pardon to Bannon on his final day in office, January 2021. This came after a federal grand jury had indicted Bannon, along with others, for mail fraud and money laundering charges. However, it’s crucial to understand that this presidential pardon did not shield Bannon from the ongoing legal proceedings initiated by the state of New York, where he still faces charges.
In September 2021, the special House committee investigating the January 6th Capitol attack issued a subpoena to Steve Bannon. His decision not to cooperate led to a federal grand jury indictment in October 2022. As a result, Bannon was penalized with a $6,500 fine and served a four-month prison term at the federal correctional institution in Danbury, Connecticut, from July 1, 2024, to October 29, 2024.
