Stephen King, renowned author, has unexpectedly resurfaced on a platform previously known as Twitter following his earlier decision to leave. His sudden return has ignited discussions across social media, sparking curiosity about the reasons behind his decision to rejoin the platform.

Stephen King returns to X (Twitter)

After a surprise comeback, renowned author Stephen King is back on X following his exit from the platform just three months prior. His decision to leave X was announced in November 2024.

After Donald Trump’s re-election, King found the atmosphere to be more and more poisonous. Since that time, he has been quite vocal on Bluesky, often voicing his disapproval towards both Trump and Elon Musk.

On February 20th, King made a comeback on X with a playful statement: “I’m back! Did you miss me?” Not long after, he openly criticized the former president and the platform’s owner. He stated, “I just wanted to say that Trump is a treacherous, Putin-loving so-and-so! The same goes double for Elon!” His reappearance coincides with rising tensions between the U.S. and Ukraine, as Musk faces criticism over his recent comments regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

While at Bluesky, King didn’t hesitate to voice his criticisms against Musk, going as far as implying that the billionaire was contributing to Trump’s political plans. Shortly before re-entering X, he leveled accusations at both men for disregarding the U.S. Constitution.

Incidentally, it so happens that his return coincides with the premiere of The Monkey, a horror film adapted from one of his short stories. Interestingly, Stephen King has not endorsed the movie on X, opting instead for political discussions. We’ll have to wait and see if this is a permanent resurgence of the renowned author on that social media platform.
