Stephanie Hsu stars in a new rom-com LAID: Release date, first-look, and more

As a seasoned gamer of life, I can’t help but be intrigued by the premise of LAID. The idea of a woman who needs to track down her past lovers to save them from certain death is a unique twist on the classic rom-com genre. Stephanie Hsu, who I’ve known from her brilliant portrayal of Shirley in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, takes on the lead role here, and I can’t wait to see her navigate this bizarre situation.

If the individuals you shared intimate moments with were to pass away, how would you react? This is a challenge Stephanie Hsu’s character, Ruby in “LAID“, must confront.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say that LAID isn’t your typical rom-com. Instead of following the usual storyline, it revolves around a woman who has to warn her past lovers about a possible impending death. But what about those she might hook up with in the future? Well, that certainly adds an extra layer of complexity to her dating life!

LAID release date

All eight episodes of LAID will drop on Peacock together on Dec. 19, 2024.

The episodes are 30-minutes each. This is going to be one quick watch!

LAID cast includes Mrs. Maisel and The Flight Attendant vets

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Hsu, recognized from “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” steps into the limelight for this hilarious tale. She plays Ruby, a woman with an unusually high number of past relationships, now on a mission to retrace her steps in hopes of saving their lives. Along the way, she’ll try to unravel the mystery behind their mysterious demises.

In the series “The Flight Attendant”, actress Zosia Mamet portrays AJ, who happens to be Ruby’s closest friend. Determined to uncover Ruby’s past romances, AJ embarks on a quest. When it comes to this predicament, AJ is the ideal friend to have around. She meticulously constructs a detailed sexual history timeline for Ruby to help make sense of the situation!

In addition to the main characters played by Michael Angarano and Tommy Martinez, the series also features Andre Hyland, Olivia Holt, David Denman, Finneas O’Connell, Chloe Fineman, Ettore “Big E” Ewen, and John Early as special guests in various episodes.

LAID synopsis

The storyline centers around a woman on a mission to find her former romantic partners with the aim of rescuing them. Instead of following the conventional rom-com formula that rekindles your affection for romance, creators Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna opted to take a unique approach.

In light of the gloominess prevalent worldwide, they aimed to infuse a touch of melancholy into romantic comedies. As such, viewers should not anticipate a cheerful conclusion for Ruby by the end of the initial season.

Take a look at the synopsis:

A woman finds out her former lovers are dying in unusual ways and must go back through her sex timeline to confront her past in order to move forward – “Laid” is a f*cked up rom-com where the answer to “why can’t I find love, is there something wrong with me?” is a resounding “Yes. There is. The problem is definitely you.”
