Stellantis Unveils New Hands-Free and Eyes-Off AI Driving Tech

Stellantis unveiled STLA AutoDrive, an advanced autonomous driving technology that allows driverless, distraction-free operation at speeds of up to 37 mph. This SAE Level 3 system is specifically designed for navigating heavy city traffic, empowering drivers to enjoy activities such as watching a film, reading, or managing emails securely while on the move.

This technology effortlessly manages everyday driving responsibilities such as maintaining safe gaps, adjusting speed, steering, and braking according to live traffic scenarios. As stated by Ned Curic, Stellantis Chief Engineering and Technology Officer, the primary goal of this technology lies in assisting drivers to make optimal use of their time.

STLA AutoDrive is designed to perform reliably, even during difficult weather situations such as at night or in rainy conditions. Additionally, it features an automatic cleaning system for its sensors, ensuring reliable, top-notch performance consistently.

Besides offering advanced features beyond Level 3 autonomy, STLA AutoDrive additionally allows for Levels 2 (requiring hand contact) and 2+ (allowing no hands or eyes contact but requiring focus) driving at faster speeds. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control and lane-centering abilities. Future upgrades may even enable driverless operation at speeds of up to 59 mph on highways and off-road terrains.

The system is designed with a flexible, internet-linked structure that allows for global deployment across Stellantis brands. It can be tailored to fit the unique regulations of different markets. Additionally, it receives frequent remote updates to continually improve its functionality.
