Star Wars Movie Loses Release Date

As a seasoned gamer and Star Wars enthusiast who’s spent countless hours navigating the galaxy far, far away, I must admit that this news has left me feeling like I’ve just been ambushed by a squad of TIE fighters. The delay or possible cancellation of an upcoming Star Wars movie is certainly not what the Force was strong with this one.

Disney has removed an untitled Star Wars movie from its release date calendar.

Initially, Disney and Lucasfilm intended to debut a forthcoming Star Wars movie on December 18, 2026. However, Disney has recently taken that film off their schedule for future releases, implying that a new launch date has yet to be determined.

It’s uncertain whether the movie has been postponed or cancelled entirely; we’ll have to wait for more information on that.

In recent times, there have been multiple Star Wars films hinted at but nothing’s officially set yet. Earlier, it was disclosed that Daisy Ridley would lead a standalone Rey film, however, Steven Knight, the screenwriter, recently left the project. As of now, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still attached to direct this movie, marking her first foray into features.

After news broke out about Simon Kinberg working on a potential new Star Wars trilogy possibly featuring Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey, there was some uncertainty as to whether Obaid-Chinoy’s film project was still in development.

What Star Wars movie comes out next?

Currently, only one Star Wars movie with a confirmed release date is set – it’s titled “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” scheduled to premiere on May 22, 2026. As of now, details about the storyline remain scarce. Pedro Pascal will once again portray Din Djarin from The Mandalorian in this film, while Grogu and Zeb Orrelios are also set to make an appearance. Additionally, Sigourney Weaver, famous for her work on Alien, has joined the cast, though the specifics of her role remain a secret.

Although it might take some time for another Star Wars movie to hit the big screen, a new television series, titled Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, is set to debut on Disney+ in December. This series, brought to life by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, features an ensemble cast including Jude Law, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kerry Condon, and others.

Additionally, Andor Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ on April 22, 2025.
