As a gamer, I’m super excited to share some juicy details I picked up about Shawn Levy’s upcoming “Star Wars” movie! In a recent chat, Kathleen Kennedy, the big boss at Lucasfilm, spilled some beans. We talked about this new project, other “Star Wars” productions, her incredible career as a producer and executive in the entertainment industry, and all the buzz surrounding those rumors about her possibly leaving Lucasfilm. Can’t wait to see what Ryan Gosling brings to the table in this one!
Kathleen Kennedy reveals first details for Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie
During a detailed conversation with Deadline, Kennedy disclosed the chronological placement of Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars film within the franchise’s timeline. It is worth noting that just last month, there were rumors suggesting Ryan Gosling as a potential cast member for this production.
Kennedy announced that the upcoming Star Wars film will be set in the future, following the conclusion of the nine main movies commonly referred to as the Skywalker Saga. This consists of the original, prequel, and sequel trilogies. She added, “Shawn’s story is a standalone Star Wars tale, likely set around five or six years after the events of the ninth movie.
She hinted that Levy’s film could incorporate a mix of fresh and familiar faces from the sequel trilogy. “Primarily, we have new characters here,” Kennedy stated, further explaining, “We might reintroduce some characters from the sequel series, but for the most part, it’s all about the newcomers.
Previously during the conversation, it was mentioned by Kennedy that the project will start production following the final chapter of The Mandalorian’s cinematic journey, titled “The Mandalorian & Grogu.
By January 2025, it emerged that Ryan Gosling was considering becoming involved with Shawn Levy’s Star Wars project. At that point, the movie’s specific setting hadn’t been disclosed yet. Since 2022, Shawn Levy has been working on this project, and by July 2024, his regular collaborator, Jonathan Tropper, joined the team as the screenwriter for the project.
Should Ryan Gosling become part of the ensemble, it’s important to note that this wouldn’t be his debut in a major science fiction series. Previously, he played the role of Officer K in the Blade Runner sequel, titled Blade Runner 2049.
