Star Wars’ Kathleen Kennedy Not Leaving Before 2025 Despite Reports

Contrary to speculation that Kathleen Kennedy could leave her position at Lucasfilm by 2025, it appears she might not be doing so based on recent reports.

On Monday, February 24, 2025, as per a report by Matthew Belloni for Puck News, it was announced that Kathleen Kennedy, who has been serving as president of Disney’s Lucasfilm since 2012, intends to step down from her position before the year ends.

According to an anonymous source, it’s said that Kathleen was considering leaving a year ago and had even arranged an exit interview with a journalist. However, she ultimately chose to stay on for another year instead.

What is the recent update on Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm?

A source close to the situation, speaking to CNN, has suggested that this might not hold true.

CNN’s source said that “there’s nothing there right now” regarding Kennedy’s retirement.

The article states that any official announcement about Kennedy’s retirement (should there be one) will be shared with the public once definite decisions have been made, according to the source. CNN also notes that Lucasfilm failed to respond to a request for comment, and no representative from Disney provided comments for this particular story.

Neither Lucasfilm nor Disney has released an official statement about the matter at this time.

As a devoted fan under Kennedy’s guidance, we were treated to a new Star Wars movie annually from 2015 onwards. From the epic The Force Awakens in 2015, to the intriguing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016, followed by the enigmatic The Last Jedi in 2017, then Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, and finally wrapping up with The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.

During Kennedy’s tenure, there hasn’t just been a wait for the next Star Wars movie, which is scheduled for 2026 with “The Mandalorian & Grogu”. There have also been several Star Wars television series that have premiered, including “The Mandalorian”, “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, “Ahsoka”, “Andor”, and “The Book of Boba Fett”, as well as other titles.
