Starting April 1st, Sandra Jackson-Dumont has decided to relinquish her position as both director and CEO at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. Co-founders George Lucas and Mellody Hobson made this announcement on Friday. In this transition, George Lucas will focus on content decisions, while Jim Gianopulos, a former CEO of Paramount and 20th Century Fox, will take over as interim CEO. At present, a search is underway for a permanent CEO, as reported by Artnews.
Jackson-Dumont’s departure coincides with the museum’s third postponement of its opening, now scheduled for 2026. She began working there in 2019 and broadened the museum’s collection significantly, including the purchase of Robert Colescott’s masterpiece, George Washington Carver Crossing the Delaware River, for approximately $15.3 million USD.
For more than ten years, the museum is being built with the intention of displaying a variety of visual narratives, curated from Lucas’s private collection and the Separate Cinema Archive. However, Lucas and Hobson have chosen to keep secret any further details regarding potential changes in leadership.
