Andor creator Tony Gilroy says a Star Wars horror project is in the works at Lucasfilm.
Danny Gilroy is renowned for crafting Disney’s Andor, where he serves as the creator, executive producer, and chief scriptwriter. The inaugural season of this Star Wars spin-off, acting as a precursor to 2016’s Rogue One, was released in September 2022, with the second and concluding season set to air later this month.
What did Andor’s Tony Gilroy say about the Star Wars horror project?
When speaking to Business Insider, Gilroy was queried about his potential plans if he were chosen to lead a Star Wars production with a horror theme under Lucasfilm and Disney.
Gilroy, however, said that he believes there’s already one in development.
“They’re doing that,” he said. “I think they’re doing that. I think that’s in the works, yeah.”
It’s undetermined yet if the unidentified project that Gilroy mentioned will be a film or a series on TV. At present, there is no additional information since Disney has yet to reply to Business Insider’s inquiry.
In simple terms, the upcoming Star Wars film is titled “The Mandalorian & Grogu” and is being helmed by Jon Favreau. This movie continues the storyline from the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian,” starring Pedro Pascal, and is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
Several more Star Wars films are being worked on in different phases, but as of now, no specific launch dates have been set for any of them.
Meanwhile, Andor Season 2 is set to debut on Disney+ on April 22, 2025, launching with a trio of episodes. Subsequently, new episodes will be added every week, totaling three each time, until May 13, 2025 when the last three episodes of the season will be released.
In the upcoming season 2 of Andor, we can expect the characters’ connections to deepen significantly as the specter of war looms closer, with Cassian playing a pivotal role in the Rebel Alliance. Each character will face their toughest challenges yet, and as the risks escalate, the betrayals, self-sacrifices, and conflicting objectives will take on greater depth.
