Star Wars Eclipse Dev Safe From NetEase Cuts

Back then, around four years ago, we shared with you that Quantic Dream was developing a Star Wars game. A trailer soon followed, fueling our anticipation and making us believe that we could soon craft our own Star Wars narrative. Regrettably, as happens occasionally, it turned out to be more wishful thinking than reality. It’s now 2025, and Star Wars Eclipse is yet to be launched. However, we now understand what isn’t causing the delay. Here’s a rundown of the recent updates regarding Star Wars Eclipse.

Quantic Dream Stays on Course

Established 28 years ago, Quantic Dream has remained faithful to its strategy, a decision solidified in 2019 when NetEase initially purchased a portion of the company. In 2022, NetEase completely took over, acquiring 100% ownership for roughly $100 million. Now, three years on, fresh reports have emerged, offering additional insights into this acquisition. With recent news about NetEase and its rounds of layoffs and studio closures, it’s natural to question Quantic Dream’s future prospects.

Guillaume de Fondaumière, the CEO, alleviated concerns on LinkedIn about Quantic Dream’s status, stating that the company remains unchanged. He expressed empathy towards those affected by layoffs at NetEase but underscored that both the Paris and Montreal studios are pushing forward with their development plans as intended. Additionally, he confirmed that the company is actively seeking new hires, inviting potential applicants to check out the studio’s job postings.

Bigger Issues at Quantic Dream

At Quantic Dream, there have been some challenges recently. Although the studio continues to function, the project has encountered delays. A few months back, the lead writer decided to part ways, and more recent news indicates that Star Wars Eclipse might find it difficult to adhere to its 2027 launch date. Despite these obstacles, Quantic Dream is actively seeking new talent, with approximately 90 job openings currently listed to help propel the project forward.

Keep in mind that the studio’s work environment might be something to consider carefully. The studio’s leader, David Cage, has been accused of having a challenging management style. Critics claim he creates an abusive workplace, with allegations of harassment and even derogatory comments about the gaming community. These issues could make some think twice before joining the team.
