Stalker 2 modders are removing the game’s best, but annoying, mechanics for an easier experience

As a seasoned Stalker, having traversed the treacherous expanse of the Zone since its inception, I must admit that the release of Stalker 2 has been both exhilarating and disheartening. The game’s gritty realism and immersive survival elements have always been a part of its charm, but it seems that not everyone shares my appreciation for these aspects.

In a variety of reactions, Stalker 2, launched by GSC Game World, has been met with both enthusiastic accolades and harsh criticisms. Although our review was optimistic about the rough-around-the-edges survival game, not everyone seems pleased with the long-awaited sequel in this post-apocalyptic setting.

As a devoted fan, I’ve been following the ongoing repairs on the A-Life system in our beloved game, but it’s not just that issue causing a stir among players. There’s been quite a commotion about the weapon durability system as well. Intended to intensify The Zone with its grim and harsh realities, some of us have grown frustrated with this mechanic. Already, there’s a growing movement among players to eliminate it altogether.

Stalker 2 players scrap weapon durability

As I pen this down, a variety of modifications, designed to either eliminate or diminish weapon durability, have already surfaced. For instance, the recently introduced “No Weapon Durability Loss” mod does away with the mechanism entirely, transforming every firearm into a reliable tool. This mod also grants the freedom to expunge all durability-related issues from outfits, ensuring they remain unscathed over time.

This mod has been downloaded over 7,000 times at the time of publication, with numerous players complimenting its creator for making it possible for them to use a majority of the found weapons. However, it’s important to note that this isn’t the only modification out there that tinkers with this specific feature.

A popular mod titled “Moderate Weapon Wear” boasts over 7,000 downloads. In this mod, the rate at which weapon deterioration occurs is reduced by half compared to the standard game, yet players are still required to care for and maintain their weapons.

Among those who have assessed Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, the weapon durability system stands out as its most captivating combat feature. Prolonged exploration in The Zone can lead to an exhilarating moment when your gun unexpectedly jams just as you line up a crucial headshot, yet it’s also understandable that players might find this frustrating over time.

In a more balanced modification of the game, a player has developed a mod that reduces the durability of the Bloodsuckers and Poltergeists in the game. These creatures are generally considered the most challenging aspect of the game, aside from certain persistent bugs. This modification is greatly appreciated by many players due to its impact on improving the overall gaming experience.
