Three years after the events of the initial season, Season 2 finds Gi-hun deciding against emigrating to the United States with his daughter and instead returning to the Squid Game to counteract the illicit actions of those orchestrating the deadly competition.

What happens at the end of Squid Game Season 2?

In fear of a brutal fight and carnage during the night, Gi-hun persuades his companions to take shelter beneath their beds. Meanwhile, Gi-hun, expecting the Masked Men to intervene, instructs his allies to feign death, allowing them to launch a surprise attack when the Masked Men arrive.
When the Masked Men come to inspect Gi-hun and his companions, they are stirred awake and launch an assault, seizing their firearms. In their attempt to escape, they head towards the control room, but are ultimately trapped by the Masked Men.
Does Seong Gi-hun live or die in Squid Game Season 2?

In essence, most of Gi-hun’s fellow team members meet a tragic end when they face off against the Masked Men. Furthermore, it turns out that Young-il, who was initially an ally to Gi-hun, is actually his primary adversary, known as the Front Man. Using his walkie, he deceives Gi-hun into believing him dead, only to confront him later. Young-il then shoots Jung-bae, but allows Gi-hun to live. As Gi-hun weeps for his fallen friend, Young-il departs.
