Squid Game, Emilia Pérez, and the full list of Netflix's 2025 Golden Globe nominations

As a long-time cinephile and TV enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the sheer number of nominations for Netflix productions in this year’s awards season is truly astounding! It seems like the streaming giant has finally found its footing in the world of high-quality entertainment.

2025’s film and TV award season kicked off on December 9th, as the first significant nomination announcements rolled out – starting with the Golden Globes. As usual, these nominations were announced bright and early, highlighting potential awards for some of this year’s most anticipated movie and television productions. Netflix led the pack with a remarkable total of 36 nominations.

Emilia Pérez emerged as the top contender with an impressive 10 nominations, making history by becoming the musical or comedy film with the most nominations in a single year. The movie earned double Best Picture nominations in both the musical or comedy and non-English language categories. Additionally, it secured three acting nods for its talented actresses.

Besides Emilia Pérez being highly praised for her roles in Netflix films, Angelina Jolie and Glen Powell also received accolades for their performances in “Maria” and “Hit Man”, respectively. Additionally, Netflix earned a nomination in the animated film category for the upcoming movie “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl”. However, it was television where Netflix garnered the most recognition from the Golden Globes.

Netflix received 36 Golden Globe nominations this year

An astounding five Netflix series earned three nominations apiece, with “Baby Reindeer,” “The Diplomat,” “Nobody Wants This,” “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” and “Ripley” among them. Each of these shows was nominated for the highest honor in their respective genre categories, and two actors received nominations for all five productions. More performances from Netflix shows were highlighted, such as Keira Knightley for the popular espionage series “Black Doves,” Ted Danson for the humorous spy show “A Man on the Inside,” and Sofía Vergara for her Emmy-nominated portrayal in “Griselda.” Netflix also discovered that three of its stand-up comedy specials from renowned comedians Adam Sandler, Ali Wong, and Jamie Foxx received nominations.

As a passionate gamer, I must admit that the nomination of “Squid Game” has left me puzzled. How could it be nominated when its second season hasn’t even been released yet? It seems unusual, but according to Deadline, the show was eligible and submitted in advance for voters, with the premiere of Season 2 scheduled on Dec 26, well after the Golden Globes announcement.

Apart from Netflix, this year’s Golden Globe nominations stretch beyond to other acclaimed films and series like “Wicked,” “Challengers,” “Shogun,” “The Penguin,” among others. Selena Gomez secured a second acting nomination for her role in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” The array of nominees promises an enthralling ceremony airing on CBS on January 5th.
