As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in various storylines, I must admit that the news of Squid Game Season 3 being the final installment pangs my heartstrings a bit. The anticipation for this series is reminiscent of waiting for the next level in an epic game, knowing that each new season brings us closer to the ultimate showdown.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but feel the exhilaration brewing as we eagerly await Squid Game Season 2. However, the news that the brilliant mind behind this phenomenal Netflix series has shared why there will only be one final, third season has left me a bit crestfallen. Still, I’m excited to see how it all unfolds and wraps up in a satisfying conclusion.
Why is Squid Game ending with Season 3?
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Squid Game’s creator Hwang Dong-hyuk shared that as he penned scripts for Season 2, it felt organic to consider a third season that would serve as the conclusion of the story. To him, the narrative arc he was crafting seemed to have reached its natural endpoint.
Speaking about the conclusion for season three, Hwang expressed that it just seemed fitting. He felt that with this narrative, he was able to convey all he intended to express through the story of Squid Game, focusing particularly on the character development of Gi-hun. In his opinion, there was no need for more stories beyond this point.
No official release information is available for Squid Game Season 3 just yet, but the show is expected to release in 2025. Squid Game Season 2 will premiere on December 26, 2024, exclusively on Netflix.
The newly announced cast for the upcoming season of Squid Game consists of Gong Yoo, Yim Siwan, Kang Haneul, Park Gyuyoung, Lee Jinuk, Park Sungoon, Yang Donggeun, Kang Aesim, Lee David, Choi Seunghyun, Roh Jaewon, Jo Yuri, and Won Ji-an.
In 2022, Hwang Dong-hyuk took on the roles of writer, director, and executive producer for the upcoming season of the popular series. In an interview with Tudum, he expressed that there is significant pressure to improve upon Season 1 of Squid Game. He shared his intentions to make it even more enjoyable for both existing fans and new global audiences by focusing on creating a more delightful viewing experience.
