In simpler terms, the widely praised massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), Final Fantasy XIV, which offers a free trial, is one of the most popular MMOs currently available. However, lately, there has been a decrease in the number of active players. After the release of the Dawntrail expansion, some gamers have temporarily stopped playing due to the ongoing issue of Square Enix releasing buggy updates and not effectively addressing fundamental problems within the game.
Last week, YoshiP, both director and producer, expressed regret over the “service quality” due to a high number of QA problems necessitating multiple updates for resolution. Now, it has been revealed that Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu has addressed these concerns in a meeting with shareholders.
Square Enix president on the state of Final Fantasy XIV
At a recent Square Enix shareholders gathering, Kiryu openly discussed that he and the rest of the team are cognizant of the ongoing challenges affecting the company’s Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game.
When queried about the perceived decrease in game quality and a shrinking fanbase, Kiryu acknowledged that this issue has been recognized within the company. In an effort to rectify the situation, they are actively working on improvements. As one of their major revenue sources, the president clarified that strategies have been developed to help their MMO reach its 10-year anniversary.
The Square Enix lead clarified, ‘I understand.’ With the success of Final Fantasy 14’s milestone in Endwalker, we’re now gearing up for the next ten years, starting with Dawntrail. Our dedicated team is putting all their effort into making sure players can start experiencing it from version 8.0 onwards.
Furthermore, Kiryu addressed the concerns voiced by fans about Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida, who serves as both director and producer at Square Enix in their MMO development, but also engages in various other projects.
He thinks the work he’s doing now, simultaneously, will undoubtedly provide him with beneficial experience for Final Fantasy 14.
SQUARE ENIX PRESIDENT TAKASHI KIRYU ON YOSHI-P’S ADDITIONAL PROJECTS
For the last five years, YoshiP has been responsible for Final Fantasy XVI, created Fantasian Neo Dimension, and is currently developing Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles. Kiryu pointed out that YoshiP firmly believes these other projects will ultimately enhance the MMO in the future.
It’s been suggested that since Producer Yoshida has a packed schedule, managing various roles, he might find it challenging to dedicate sufficient time to Final Fantasy 14. However, he is confident that the work he’s currently engaged in will eventually prove beneficial for Final Fantasy 14, providing him with invaluable experience.
Previously, Square Enix hadn’t explicitly acknowledged a decrease in player numbers for Final Fantasy XIV, yet players have observed it. It’s not a full-scale migration or a panic-stricken evacuation, but the game’s usual bustling population appears to be a bit thinner. Here’s hoping those absent players return soon.
