[SPOILER]'s death is what pushes Tory over the edge in Cobra Kai season 6 part 1

As a huge fan of Cobra Kai, I have to say that the sixth and final season has been a rollercoaster ride so far, and Tory’s storyline has been particularly heart-wrenching for me. Her character has always been one of my favorites due to her determination, resilience, and complex backstory. In this latest installment, we see her dealing with the devastating loss of her mother, which leaves her feeling isolated and alone.

I’m thrilled to be back in the world of Cobra Kai as we kick off the sixth and last season, now streaming on Netflix! Although we can’t devour all 15 episodes at once, we have plenty to look forward to with more episodes on the horizon. Instead of two parts, this final chapter is divided into three, with the first five episodes available starting July 18. We’ll have to wait until November for parts 2 and 3, but part 1 leaves us with plenty to ponder and discuss among ourselves until then.

WARNING: Major spoilers for Cobra Kai season 6 part 1 are ahead.

Johnny and Daniel combine their dojos and determine which student will represent them at the international karate competition, Sekai Taikai, set to take place in Barcelona, Spain. Meanwhile, Kreese resurfaces to start his own dojo in preparation. Prior to the tournament, Daniel uncovers a shocking truth about Mr. Miyagi’s history, while the students weigh their college application options. Similar to previous seasons, Cobra Kai season 6 sees significant development for Tory. Uninterested in college like her friends, she remains dedicated to karate and caring for her ailing mother. Her goal is to achieve victory at Sekai Taikai alongside her boyfriend Robby.

Tory’s plans with Miyagi-Do take an unfortunate turn when she receives devastating news about her mother. Although she is initially overjoyed to hear that her mom’s health has been improving, this happiness is short-lived. In episode 5, Tory arrives home to find her mother unconscious on the floor. At the hospital, she learns that her mom has passed away. This loss is profoundly affecting for Tory, who had been looking after her bedridden and ailing mother for some time, making it necessary for her to take on family responsibilities while her mother underwent dialysis treatments.

How does Tory’s mom die in Cobra Kai?

In episode 5, it is revealed that Tory’s mother died due to a sudden pulmonary embolism. This occurs when blood flow to the lungs is obstructed, often by a clot. Although not always fatal, tragically, her mother’s case proved to be so. As a result, Tory grieves in isolation, shunning school and ignoring Robby’s messages and calls.

When Tory arrives at the dojo, it’s apparent that something is amiss. She engages in a heated contest with Sam for the position of female captain for the Sekai Taikai. Her behavior is unusually aggressive and agitated, hinting at an underlying issue. Despite Sam’s persistence, Amanda receives a distressing phone call from the hospital, notifying her of Tory’s mother’s passing. Consequently, Amanda and Daniel decide to halt the fight. Before departing, Tory shares the sad news with everyone that her mother has passed away.

Tory doesn’t feel like she belongs in Miyagi-Do

As a dedicated gamer immersed in the world of Cobra Kai, I can’t help but share my excitement about an essential scene from season 6 part 1. In this pivotal moment, I find myself face-to-face with Tory and Kreese. Their reunion is tense, filled with unresolved anger on her end. Last season, he kept her in the dark during his prison escape plans. He tries to explain that it was all for her protection, but I’m still seething.

[SPOILER]'s death is what pushes Tory over the edge in Cobra Kai season 6 part 1

In the final scene of Episode 5, the Miyagi-Do team reaches the Sekai Taikai tournament, but they’re taken aback when they find out Kreese and Kim Da-Eun have their own dojo participating. The shock deepens as Tory is unveiled as an ally to their rivals. Although startling, this development makes sense when you ponder it. Tory feels isolated and unwanted, and despite Robby’s companionship, she yearns for a sense of belonging. Her turmoil finds solace in karate, and though Kreese isn’t an ideal mentor, he offers her a connection through their shared martial arts philosophy.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but be drawn to Tory in “Cobra Kai.” It’s all about Peyton List’s captivating portrayal and the intricate character development. Unlike some others, Tory is multidimensional and leaves me cheering her on every time. Her life hasn’t been an easy deck to draw from, but she truly deserves good fortune. Maybe, just maybe, by the end of season 6, she’ll finally receive it – regardless of whether she’s with Miyagi-Do or not.

Currently, you have the ability to watch the first part of Cobra Kai season 6 on Netflix. The upcoming release date for new episodes is November 28, 2024.
