Spider-Man: Brand New Day Plot Details, Punisher’s Involvement Confirmed by Kevin Feige

The head honcho at Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, has dished out some significant insider information about the impending adventure of everyone’s favorite web-slinger, Spider-Man: A Fresh Start.

In a recent interview in Los Angeles, Feige revealed information about various upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films, including the next chapter of Spider-Man. Titled “Spider-Man: A Fresh Start,” production is scheduled to start later this summer. When asked about the sequel, Feige mentioned that Tom Holland will reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man for the first time since 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In the final scenes of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange wiped everyone’s memory about Peter Parker to safeguard the multiverse. With no one left to confide in after this significant transformation, the film concluded with the MCU’s Spider-Man growing closer to his comic book version, living in a modest apartment and crafting his own Spider-Man costume. Many viewers interpreted this as hinting towards a street-level narrative for the next Spider-Man movie. However, it was later reported that Sony desired another multiverse film, while Feige and Holland preferred a street-level story. Although the Punisher, a street vigilante, joined the cast, the specific direction of Brand New Day had not yet been officially announced by Marvel. Now, Marvel has finally confirmed the direction for Brand New Day.

What did Kevin Feige say about Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s plot?

In the closing scenes of No Way Home, it seems as though Peter Parker is abandoned by everyone he knows. Yet, this could mark a significant shift in the Tom Holland Spiderman saga, with Peter assuming the role of a true Spiderman – single-handedly protecting the city and tackling everyday criminal activities rather than global catastrophes that he encountered when collaborating with other characters. Feige hinted at this during a group discussion, suggesting that the upcoming story, Brand New Day, will be rooted in the gritty reality of New York City, much like Spider-Man: Homecoming from 2017.

Feige further explained why Jon Bernthal’s Punisher was included in the cast for Brand New Day. He stated, “When you consider who else he hasn’t interacted with among street-level characters, it’s obvious that the Punisher, who originated from a Spider-Man comic, is a great choice. I can’t reveal too much, but I will say that Destin is doing an exceptional job on the movie right now. Filming begins soon, and he has 8 to 9 comic covers displayed in his art department, which are being brought to life in this film. It’s incredibly exciting!

Other than Holland and Bernthal, additional actors confirmed for Spider-Man: Brand New Day include Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas, although the specifics of their roles are not yet revealed. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are anticipated to reprise their roles as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson and Ned Leeds respectively, though the details of their participation are currently unclear. There have been whispers that Mark Ruffalo may appear as Bruce Banner/Hulk, but Marvel has yet to verify this casting.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
