Speed 3: Sandra Bullock Reveals What’s Needed for Sequel to Happen

As a gamer who has spent countless hours navigating through the labyrinth of Hollywood franchises, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when it comes to the possibility of Speed 3. Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves, two iconic figures in the action genre, reuniting for another high-speed chase would be a dream come true.

In light of Hollywood’s ongoing trend of rebooting old series, there’s been talk about a potential third installment of the “Speed” franchise, featuring Sandra Bullock once more. While the original 1994 Speed film has stood the test of time as a classic, its sequel, Speed 2: Cruise Control, fell short of rekindling that success at the box office. However, Bullock recently shared some insights into what it might take to bring Speed 3 to life with Keanu Reeves on board.

Sandra Bullock says Speed 3 ‘would require a lot from everybody’

30 years after their collaboration, Reeves and Bullock joined forces with filmmaker Jan de Bont once more to commemorate the anniversary of “Speed”. During a special event held at American Cinematheque’s Egyptian Theatre as part of Beyond Fest, Bullock discussed the possibilities of Speed 3.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, she expressed, “The slower-paced adaptation is what we’re aiming for.” Then, she shifted her focus to de Bont and added:

These events transpired due to the individual in the greenish jacket over yonder. Today, he appears calm and mild, a stark contrast to my previous encounters with him. However, it was him who brought together the drive and concept, understood the audience’s tastes, and compelled everyone to deliver their best. So, one might wonder, what film would appease Jan’s intellect and creativity?

In conclusion, she shared her opinion about the boldness of Hollywood regarding a new Speed sequel.

It’s a significant ask from everyone involved. I wonder if our industry is still prepared to accept such demands and have the courage to carry them out. Perhaps I’m mistaken. If he can’t translate his ideas into something the audience will appreciate, then it would be considered a failure. I’m unsure what alternative we could offer that would satisfy the audience.

Apart from Sandra Bullock, it was revealed earlier this year that Keanu Reeves has also expressed enthusiasm about creating Speed 3. In an interview for the 50mph podcast, Reeves hinted at a potential collaboration with Bullock, stating they could really hit it out of the park if Speed 3 were to materialize. Additionally, he mentioned his eagerness to team up with her again after she proposed the idea. However, as of now, their anticipated on-screen partnership for Speed 3 or any future project has not come to fruition yet.
