The much-anticipated sequel to the iconic comedy film Spaceballs, titled Spaceballs 2, now has an announced release date range. Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that original stars Rick Moranis, Mel Brooks, and others will reprise their roles in this continuation of the beloved space-parody flick.
Who is currently a part of the Spaceballs 2 cast?
Based on a recent Variety report, it appears that Amazon MGM Studios is planning to bring back Spaceballs 2 to the big screen around 2027. Excitingly, the original creator, Mel Brooks, will reprise his roles as writer, director, and actor in this upcoming sequel. Additionally, Rick Moranis and Bill Pullman, who played Dark Helmet and Lone Starr in the first film, have also signed on for the new project.
As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that it’s not just the trio making their comeback, there’s more! According to Deadline, Keke Palmer is set to join the cast of the sequel starring Josh Gad. However, details about her character and the plot are still under wraps. In a playful video on social media, Brooks hinted at the number of franchises that have emerged in the 38 years since Spaceballs, implying we’re in for a fun ride!

Last year’s reports indicate that Spaceballs 2 is slated for direction by Josh Greenbaum, while the screenplay will be penned by Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.
In Spaceballs, the movie, Pullman took on the role of Lone Starr, John Candy became Barf, Daphne Zuniga was Princess Vespa, Joan Rivers lent her voice to Dot Matrix, while Moranis portrayed Lord Dark Helmet. Additionally, Brooks played both President Skroob and Yogurt in this film.
In a faraway galaxy, the planet Spaceball is running out of breathable air, forcing its inhabitants to rely on Perri-Air. In panic, President Skroob of Spaceball orders the wicked Dark Helmet to seize Princess Vespa from oxygen-rich Druidia and keep her captive for air ransom. However, help comes for the princess in the form of rogue space traveler Lone Starr and his mixed human-canine companion, Barf.
