As a seasoned Space Marine veteran with countless hours spent battling heretics and xenos scum across the galaxy, I can confidently say that the Melta Bomb in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 leaves much to be desired. It’s like wielding a hammer against an Ork Boy – it should make short work, but instead, it feels more like a gentle tap.
Among all the weapons in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, the Melta Bomb grenade seems to deliver the least impressive performance. Surprisingly, this highly potent weapon within the universe lacks impact when it comes to its detonation power.
Since we’re yet to apply balance adjustments aimed at enhancing player power, there’s a proposal to revamp the Melta Bomb to better align with the destructive force of its source material equivalent. However, it remains uncertain if these changes will be implemented.
Buff the Meta Bomb
In the Warhammer 40K series, the Melta Bomb is a highly destructive explosive. However, in Space Marine 2, while it does cause a substantial explosion upon manual detonation, the extent of the damage significantly decreases rapidly.
Within the storyline, the impact of the Melta Bomb is immense. It releases a torrent of thermal energy not just to eliminate enemies, but also to liquefy them completely. This is why it’s called as such.
Although Saber Interactive must maintain the aesthetic of the Warhammer tabletop game, they’ve chosen to add some creative touches. For instance, a weapon that was somewhat ineffective in the board game, the Neo-Volkite Pistol, is set to appear in Space Marine 2, but it seems significantly more potent than its tabletop version.
How to make the boom bigger
In its current form, the Melta Bomb requires both manual setting and detonation, an aspect we believe should persist in an enhanced version of the weapon. Unfortunately, the resulting explosion doesn’t offer much excitement on its own. However, when used amidst a swarm of Tyranids, the sensation becomes incredibly rewarding.
To enhance the potency of Saber’s weapon, it would be beneficial to expand the blast radius, increasing the affected area with progressive reduction in damage. Additionally, prolonging the duration of the explosion would intensify the anticipation and impact of the bomb detonation.
Enhancing the Melta Bomb might give players a more fulfilling experience because, in reality, much of a weapon’s perceived power lies in its sound and visual effects that deceive players into thinking the weapon is powerful.
For the upcoming game, Space Marine 2, its developer Saber Interactive has a substantial amount of time to refine existing weaponry, given the extensive content they’ve got lined up. As they incorporate fresh Tyranid and Chaos forces, along with new weapons, missions, and additional features, there’s ample opportunity for adjustments in game balance.
