Space Marine 2 modders are already working on adding Necron and Tau enemies to the game

As an ardent Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 enthusiast, I’m thrilled to bits that the developers at Saber Interactive have handed over the keys to the game’s secret workshop! Now, modders like me have free rein to tinker with the game’s innards and create our very own custom content. What a time to be alive!

As the players were actively developing 12-player modes and role-playing game (RPG)-style raids, modders have shifted their focus towards introducing fresh enemy factions into the game, such as the Necron and Tau forces.

Space Marine 2 on PC will get Necron and Tau enemies

In simple terms, a key developer of Warhammer Workshop, responsible for the extensive Astartes Overhaul mod, is currently aiming to incorporate fresh enemy groups into Space Marine 2. During an interview with IGN, this developer shared that it’s not just feasible but already part of their plans to introduce these new factions.

In a future update for this modification, the creator mentioned that both Necron and Tau armies will be included because they have the necessary models (rigged models) for these types of enemies. On the other hand, the addition of Orc factions has not been planned at this time.

In the finale of Space Marine 2, hints about the formidable foes known as Necrons were dropped, suggesting they might appear in Space Marine 3. However, these enemies are not going to be incorporated into the present version of the game.

As a devoted admirer, I’m excited to share that the creators of this incredible project have hinted at more goodies in store for us players, even though Saber Interactive has only partially delivered the goods so far. There are indeed additional features on their way for the mod tools, such as the ability to craft custom campaigns. However, it’s important to note that creating cutscenes is still a challenge because the animation software isn’t included in the package at this time.

As an ardent enthusiast, I can’t help but feel exhilarated knowing that Space Marine 2 is poised to rival Skyrim in terms of post-release modding possibilities. Despite Saber Interactive diligently working on new Operations, weapons, and even a forthcoming Horde Mode for the game, the potential for community-driven customizations is immense!

Moreover, Saber is currently developing Space Marine 3, an upgraded sequel featuring grander skirmishes. Although the game is still in its initial stages of pre-production, it’s being referred to as a significant enhancement of the outstanding Space Marine 2.

As a passionate admirer, I must say that the Warhammer 40K community stands out as one of the most devoted fanbases around. Time and again, each game in this captivating franchise benefits from creative modifications, often springing up even without the provision of official mod tools. Remarkably, Saber has consistently recognized this dedication by offering opportunities for these modifications to thrive.

Perhaps, someday, consoles may also receive mod support, much like in games such as Baldur’s Gate 3 and Fallout 4. Unfortunately, at the moment, there are no plans for implementing this feature.
