In a fascinating twist, the creative minds behind Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 have astonished players with the introduction of a 12-player mode in their modifications. As these modders delve deeper into integrating MMO-style raids within the PC version of the game, Saber Interactive is persistently crafting additional official content tailored for three-player cooperative play.
As a dedicated gamer diving into the universe of Space Marine 2, I’ve picked up some exciting news. In a chat with fellow gamers, the developers admitted the presence of larger squad size mods in the community. Yet, it’s important to note that their official content is still tailored for three-player squads on both PC and console platforms.
Space Marine 2 devs won’t add bigger squads
In a chat with IGN, Saber Interactive’s Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, shared that they dabbled with expanding the four-player teams to be a bit larger, but this resulted in the game becoming excessively simple.
In an earlier discussion, it was mentioned that limiting the player count in PvE game modes, such as Siege Mode, to three characters is a strategy aimed at delivering a suitable level of challenge. This is achieved by designing the opponents we pit against you and your teammates.
Regrettably, Saber feels that expanding the squad sizes wouldn’t provide sufficient difficulty for players, given that advancements and rewards are linked to player progression. Consequently, providing players with an easy route to conquer Operations is not a viable option.
Willits stated that having just four Space Marines working on a PvE mission was far too simple, as the intensity of enemy attacks scaled up significantly when a fourth player joined, making it excessively difficult.
In response to queries about expanding the squad sizes in the game, the Chief Creative Officer of Saber cryptically hinted that they aren’t currently working on such features, potentially implying that larger squads could be a part of the upcoming “Bigger and Better” Space Marine 3 project.
In the upcoming month, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 will introduce an exhilarating new mode called Siege Mode, which is essentially a fresh spin on Horde Mode. This mode invites players to engage in intense battles against waves of Tyrannids and Chaos, promising a thrilling experience. Additionally, further content, including novel Operations and intriguing new missions, are anticipated, with dataminers recently uncovering several intriguing new mission details.
Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that the original Warhammer 40K: Space Marine is making a comeback as the Master Crafted Edition, developed by a different team. This updated version of the game will be available for PC and Xbox next month, featuring improved character models, enhanced audio, a fully operational multiplayer mode, and many other additions.
