As a die-hard fan of the vibrant world of Tamil cinema, I must say this past week has been a rollercoaster ride! From the much-anticipated updates on upcoming films like Coolie and Kangaroo to the shocking revelations about relationships and controversies, there’s never a dull moment.
The past week opened up with what can be called the ‘greatest’ highlight of the year with Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth announcing their beautiful wedding. The couple surprised everyone with heartwarming pictures from their traditional South Indian wedding ceremony. Besides, we also witnessed a shocking case where choreographer Jani Master was accused of sexual assault by his 21-year-old female colleague. Talking about the top happenings of the past week, we can not forget Suriya starrer Kanguva’s new release date reveal. While we acknowledge that social media was taken by storm with these news, we also understand that you might have missed many top updates because of hectic work schedules. On that note, TopMob is back with its Saturday special ‘South Newsmakers of the Week’.
Top South Newsmakers of the Week
1. Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth’s wedding
On September 16th, Aditi Rao Hydari and her longtime partner Siddharth surprised their fans by posting stunning photos from their traditional wedding ceremony. After announcing their engagement in March, there had been much anticipation for their big day. Yet, the couple chose to keep it a secret until they shared these beautiful pictures from their special occasion.
In the images, Aditi and Siddharth stood together, gazing deeply into one another’s eyes for the camera. They also captured memories outside the temple where they exchanged vows. Not long after posting these pictures, warm wishes poured in from friends and well-wishers all around the world to congratulate Aditi and Siddharth.
2. Vettaiyan Teaser OUT!
Without a doubt, it can be concluded that Rajinikanth’s upcoming movie, Vettaiyan, is the most highly anticipated film of this year. This blockbuster production, helmed by TJ Gnanavel, is set for release on October 10th. As fans eagerly await the premiere of Vettaiyan, a captivating sneak peek was revealed on September 20, 2024.
The opening scene of Vettaiyan introduces four police operatives, skillfully handled by Amitabh Bachchan’s character. Subsequently, brief glimpses are given of the superstar Rajinikanth, portraying an SP. A 1-minute and 38-second clip offers tantalizing peeks at other cast members such as Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan, and Rithika Singh.
3. Kanguva ‘NEW’ Release Date OUT!
Originally planned for release in theaters on October 10, Suriya’s new movie titled Kanguva has been pushed back. The producers initially announced the release date along with a compelling poster showcasing Suriya and Bobby Deol on September 19. However, to prevent competition with Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, the team has decided to release Kanguva on November 14, 2024 instead.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that for those unfamiliar with the genre, this upcoming action fantasy film promises heart-pounding action sequences and breathtaking visual effects. Alongside Suriya and Bonny Deol, you’ll see Disha Patani, Kichcha Sudeep, Jagapathi Babu, and Nataranjan Subramanium stepping into significant roles in this production.
5. Coolie leaked scene
In a leaked video from the set of the upcoming Rajinikanth film Coolie, it appears that Nagarjuna will play a significant role, with his character bearing resemblance to Rolex (a character from a previous movie). Upon the release of this footage online, director Lokesh Kanagaraj responded by posting an emotional message on social media.
On his now-official platform (previously Twitter), he stated, “After two months of dedicated effort by numerous individuals, all undone due to a single recording. I kindly ask that no one indulges in similar actions, for they ruin the general enjoyment. Thank you.
For those unfamiliar, aside from Nagarjuna and Rajinikanth, the movie Coolie also stars Upendra Rao, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, among others in significant roles. According to current news, there’s a possibility that this film will be released in 2025.
6. Jayam Ravi’s alleged relationship with Kenishaa Francis
In just a few days following Jayam Ravi publicly announcing his divorce from Aarti Ravi, numerous conjectural assumptions about their separation have flooded social media. The newest gossip hints that actor Jayam Ravi’s clandestine relationship with singer Kenishaa Francis could be the cause of their marital breakdown.
Recently, in an interview with DT Next, I found myself addressing the rumors surrounding my personal life. Laughing off such attempts to tarnish the image I’ve cultivated through years of hard work and careful script selection feels like the only appropriate response. It’s no walk in the park to smear someone’s reputation. If you consider the entire situation to have started with a public announcement, that’s not exactly how it went down.
Jayam Ravi clarified that he’d delivered a divorce petition via his attorney to Aarti, and her father confirmed receiving it. This contradicts Aarti’s assertion that they hadn’t previously talked about making a public announcement regarding the matter.
7. Choreographer Jani Master’s controversy
Renowned choreographer Shaik Jani Basha, also known as Jani Master, has found himself embroiled in a scandal, following allegations by a 21-year-old female colleague that he had sexually harassed her for several years.
According to an article in The Hindu, a senior police official stated that the accuser declared that Jani had sexually harassed her on numerous occasions during their film shoots across cities such as Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. Additionally, she alleged that he also assaulted her at her home in Narsingi on several occasions. Since the victim resides in Narsingi, the case has been moved to the local police station for further examination.
As a committed follower, I’m sharing this update: Jani Master, who had been under scrutiny, was officially charged under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as provisions of POCSO. This was following an investigation that uncovered a distressing truth – the victim was a minor during the alleged abuse. Now, after his arrest, the choreographer has admitted to the heinous crime.
